Art Classes, Art Fairs and Much, Much more

I know it’s been an age since I put out a blog post. I am sorry…I get so busy and then realise I am not keeping in touch with you, my regular (and loyal!) followers and supporters.

The art auction in March was a success. Hurrah! Everything went. Literally every original painting I had in the house is now residing somewhere in a different part of the world. Some went to New York, in an apartment overlooking the Statue of Liberty. One went to Canada. Lots went to England, and many made their way to different parts of Scotland. It was so enjoyable for me to host the online auction, although nerve wracking as I was having to do live posts on Facebook to over 2,000 people. There were a few run throughs before we hit that go live button! Anyhow thank you so much to anyone who bid. We raised £350 for Cancer Research as I wanted to donate a percentage of what we raised to this charitable cause.

Amongst commissions I am working on some new projects just now. In September I will be launching some creative mindfulness classes at Newton Croft. These will be creative sessions using different mediums for you to gain confidence in expression and to discover the therapeutic and healing benefits of creativity. Please bring your own materials, whether that is pastels, pencils, pens, knitting, crochet, embroidery, collage, paper sculpture or water colour paints. I will be giving demonstrations in various exercises such as mandala making, mask making, zentangles, journalling, and scrap booking. The class will involve a short meditation and time for reflection at the end. These fortnightly sessions will be held on a Thursday evening from 5th September, 7 until 8.30 pm. Pre – booking is not essential, but please drop me a line if you are interested in attending. Price per session will be £10.

I am also running a one day ‘Painting a landscape’ Acrylic workshop at the tranquil Forse of Nature near Lybster on Saturday 26th October. I will share my expertise on creating a landscape scene from start to finish and equip you with skills that will enable you to be a more proficient painter. The day will start at 10 am and finish at 4 pm. Lunch is included in the price. Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements. All of your materials will be provided. You will leave at the end of the day with a large completed canvas. This workshop is suitable for beginners or more practised painters. Spaces are limited so please ensure pre – booking by messaging me. The price is being offered at a special rate of £95. A deposit of £50 is required to book your place. Reference material will be provided but please feel free to bring your own images to recreate. Some ideas would be a favourite landscape or place that you enjoy visiting.

And finally…I will be taking my waves, that I create in my married name of Lisa Mcdonald, to their first Art Fair in October. These are large oil paintings which are one off pieces with no reproductions or prints, all heavily inspired by my love of the sea. You can visit me and my waves at Brighton Race Course, as part of Sussex Art Fairs, on the 11th, 12th and 13th October. See more details here –

I have also created a separate website for my wave work which you can visit at –

This will tell you what work is available and where I am exhibiting. Please do contact me if you would like to purchase a painting. I would rather you contact me directly than go through a gallery and pay the steep commision fees.

That is all for now. I think it’s enough to keep me out of touble ?!? I hope you are all well. Please drop me a line with any comments or feedback. I love to see my paintings/ products in their new homes, and to know that they are still bringing joy.

As always there are plenty of products to browse and purchase in the Shop Section of my website. My framed prints and block canvas prints now come in luxury gift boxes with my Haven House Art branding. I ship internationally –

‘Golden Light at Noss Head’ Block Canvas Print

This is my latest commissioned painting that went to a home in Thurso. I was also inspired to write this poem that accompanies it. I think it sums up my rugged, wild Caithness landscape perfectly.

‘A Caithness Moment’ by Lisa Weller

‘A Caithness Moment’

I’ll meet you out on the cliff tops

Where the gulls nest in the outcrops

We’ll see the waves break down below

Watch them as they roll to and fro.

I’ll see you up on the hillside

Where the view is far as is wide

We will wander through the peatland

From high Morven to Dunnet sand.

I’ll be with you out in the large skies

Where the clouds billow and roll by

We’ll gather down at the shore side

Where the birds call to the full tide.

I’ll be with you forever

In this land of peat and heather

We’ll take our time, enjoy the view

This Caithness moment is for you.
