Go create!
Expression is all but a choice of medium. Well it is for me anyhow! Naturally I am drawn (no pun intended!) to paint, but sometimes I find it easier to express the feeling with words. And even sometimes, on rare occasions, I sing! And lately, those of you following my blogs will know that, I have returned to writing and am having my blogs published in the local paper. That is why I encourage people..even the ones who say they can’t even draw a stick person (and there do seem to be a lot of them if I believe what they tell me), to be creative. Creativity is not about the product, it is about the process. It is about feeling and allowing yourself the freedom to express that feeling.
So go ahead..dance, sing, act, draw, paint, write, play, perform..Whatever your choice of medium. Just go create!
This is a new poem I have written about the sea. It might go some way towards encapsulating why I paint the sea, although in some ways a painting may say it more completely than a poem ever will. A poem will pin the meaning down, but a painting will leave it lucid and open to interpretation.
Take Me to the Sea
Take me to the sea
And let me be lost
In divinity
Let all thoughts dissolve
And evaporate.
Take me to the sea
Have my tears be soothed
And met in salty essence.
Have my soul quieten,
Uneasy breath matched by gentle wave.
Take me to the sea
Hold me while I kick and giggle,
Salt buoyed and delighted
Enlightened, emboldened
And renewed.
Take me to the sea
When my mood is black
And watch as Nature’s power
Brings me back
To harmony and wonder.
Take me to the sea.
And have me bathe in shallow waters
Ice cold, yet warming
Jewel-like light
On my being.
Take me to the sea
And never let me wander.
