Sweet Surrender
There are times and there are seasons. There are moments to take action, and there are periods of inaction. Some times we are all ‘go’ and other times it is all about waiting, where we must hunker down…and grow.
I am in one of those growing seasons just now. As much as my head wants to push forward, and conquer the world, my body is telling me no. All external conditions, in fact, are telling me to wait a while and have patience. That this is not my time.
It’s knowing what to do in these moments. We have two choices. We can distract ourselves and wait for this season to pass. We can turn to all the familiar go-to distractions, like TV, Netflix and food, or we can use the space to fill the vacuum by turning inwards, or maybe even outwards.
When the pace of life slows we can take the chance to connect with nature and truly take the time to listen to what she has to say,
She says it’s ok to let go of doing and to embrace being.
She says to release wanting and to open up fully to having.
She says to turn the mind from judging and open the heart to loving.
The world is full of must haves, must bes, should dos and look at what I am doing, but what if we pressed pause on all of that and become a moment; a moment of sweet surrender and presence. That moment where we let go of all resistance and welcome all that is. For it is in fact the mind’s resistance to the situation that causes the turmoil, not the actual circumstance.
So I invite you all to join me in those moments.
See those clouds floating by above your head? Release and let go to them.
Hear those birds chirping? Smile and open your ears to their sweet, gentle sound.
Feel that breeze catching your skin? Sigh and step into that sensation.
It’s all there. Everything we need and want is out there. And when we connect to what’s out there we truly find what’s inside…A heart that wants to open.
