Tending to my Path

I am showing you a picture of what I was doing this morning (a Monday morning). I was sitting, drinking in the views and enjoying some peace. I am not saying this to brag, or to boast. I am saying it because I want to tell you how far I have come, both physically in terms of location, but also in terms of lifestyle.

Just 8 years ago I was working the 9 to 5 grind in an office as a Project Manager but it wasn’t ‘me’.  I made the leap and now 8 years later I am my own boss, I choose my own hours and I am doing something I am passionate about. The journey to get here was far from easy, but every single breakthrough has been more than worth the struggle.

Anyhow, why am I telling you this? Because I believe that it is every person’s responsibility to make their life the best it can possibly be. I believe in following my dreams and I am encouraging you to do the same.

Last week I stayed with my Uncle and Aunt in Aviemore and we were blessed with deep snow, but it did mean it was difficult to walk anywhere, especially when the snow melted and froze again, leaving dangerous ice patches.

My Aunt was telling me how in Austria it is the responsibility of each house owner to clear the patch outside their house, leaving anyone passing a clear walk through. I love that idea; of each person taking claim to their own bit of path and can envisage how an entire street, in fact an entire neighbourhood’s path system would operate as one smooth, succinct system, leaving a clear path from end to end.

So that is how I try to live my life. When I took the plunge and came on this mad adventure to Scotland I decided it was time I swept my path, cleared the debris and left it nice and tidy. It is my responsibility to make my life the happiest it can be. And if everyone lives this way and takes responsibility for themselves imagine how much easier life would become.

I am not suggesting that everyone comes to Caithness and starts painting, but I do suggest that you do what your soul cries out to do, whatever that may be. In that way you are clearing the debris and the icy patches, leaving a clear way through for more goodness to come your way.  I encourage you today to tend to your pathway.
