Love Scotland

I am on my way ‘down south’ to Beauly and Fortrose this week to deliver some paintings to some outlets and I am particularly looking forward to it because we are making a small break of it and staying in a wee cabin on the edge of a forest. It will give me the chance to explore yet another part of this amazing country that I now call home.

So I thought I would share with you some of the reasons why I love Scotland so much. I knew, perhaps from the first time that I visited aged 15, that this land would be my home. Having travelled it extensively I thought I would settle on the West coast with its stunning mountains and lochs, but it seems my heart had other ideas, and chose the far North East instead.

Originally from the south coast of England, I was entranced by the sense of space, acres of emptiness and expanses of sky.

Scotland Skies

There are forests you can get lost in, or find yourself in, whatever your inclination! Miles of paths to walk or ride with the essence of pine to tantalise your nostrils.

The Golden Path

There are more castles than sheep, or at least that’s what it seems! And castles spell history, centuries of history and culture.

Lochs do more than collect and gather water, they reflect the beauty of their surroundings.

Loch Morlich

Miles of coastline mean that no crag or cliff or beach is the same. Every turn in the rock or the road brings new joy.

The wildlife is particularly endearing!

The rivers and burns tell a story all of their own.

The Burn

Each town and village has such distinct character and a story all of its own, which the people are proud of, and rightly so.

The peaty bogs, far from being empty space are rich in life and colour.

The light, so pure, so clean, so..light.

As you can tell, I am entranced by this land and every day I count my blessings that this is now where I reside..in a little cottage on the cliffs, over looking the sea.

Please do come and visit us. If you are ever in the area let me know..Haven House loves to welcome visitors 🙂

See you next week. Have a lovely week xx
